Mirissa Neff earned her alias as DJ Felina after being told time and again that she has "many feline qualities." Makes sense, as this cool cat of a DJ has been scratching records at the Elbo Room for four years now, where she is rather frisky when it comes to fooling around with funky beats. "I'm the equatorial funkstress," says the New York City native. "I spin music from all over the globe. I'm curious about different sounds and am drawn toward sensual beats." -San Francisco Chronicle
"The multicultural dj with a tropical vibe" - SF Bay Guardian
"DJ Felina breaks down cultural boundaries and creatively selects the
most stylistic sounds" - Nitevibe
New York City native DJ Felina has a unique sound that centers around what she has coined "equatorial beats," i.e., music from and inspired by the equatorial diaspora. Her hip shaking sets run the gamut from Brazilian batucadas, to Venezuelan neo-disco, to gypsy electronica.
A rampant traveler she is driven to find music her audiences instantly love... but would otherwise not be exposed to. Felina makes it her job to keep her finger square on the pulse of what's happening in the world music scene and has played venues throughout the Bay Area including The Fillmore, the Independent, KPFA, Great American Music Hall, Cafe du Nord, and the Elbo Room.
